QUALIFICATION
This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required for employment as an Advanced Engineering Tradesperson – Level II within the metal, engineering, manufacturing, and associated industries or at equivalent levels in other industries where engineering tradespersons work. The qualification has been specifically developed to meet the needs of apprentices in an engineering trade who choose to study at a higher level during their apprenticeship, or for people who are existing engineering tradespersons.
It provides the skills and knowledge for a person to undertake quality control, exercise good interpersonal and communications skills, work from complex instructions and procedures, provide technical guidance or assistance within the scope of responsibility, prepare reports of a technical nature on specific tasks or assignments, exercise broad discretion within the scope of responsibility, perform work under limited supervision either individually or in a team environment, be responsible for assuring the quality of their own work, provide trade guidance and assistance as part of a work team, perform non-trade tasks which are incidental or peripheral to the primary tasks and facilitate the completion of the whole task, inspect products and/or materials for conformity with established operational standards, operate lifting equipment incidental to their work and assists in the provision of training in conjunction with supervisors and trainers.

WHO CAN UNDERTAKE THE TRAINING?
For you to be eligible, you need to be:
- An Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits

Undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test and Pre Training Review (PTR) at Australian Institute of Engineering prior to your commencement of the course.
COURSE STRUCTURE
Diploma of Engineering – Advanced Trade (MEM50119) covers the skills and knowledge required for employment as an Advanced Engineering Tradesperson – Level II within the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries or at equivalent levels in other industries where Engineering Tradespersons work.

WHAT IS THE COURSE DURATION?
Course Duration: 2-4 Years in an apprenticeship contract.

DELIVERY ARRANGEMENTS
This program is to be delivered through a combination of face-to-face visits and facilitated live online meetings supported with on-the-job training at the learner’s workplace.
Theory based delivery will occur through facilitated online training sessions occurring fortnightly (3 hours) and practical skills training will occur through a minimum of 4 -5 face to face visits at the student’s workplace through structured training sessions from a qualified trainer / assessor.
Through the online facilitated training sessions, a qualified trainer will provide the required knowledge as per the unit content and will ensure that learning is imparted. The Trainer will have designated session plans to reference to ensure the learning content is provided consistently to all learners.
For practical components / skills, the Trainer will coordinate with the employer to ensure access to suitable environments for practical training to occur.
Learners will also be supplied with Learner Guides for each unit delivered and will work through the learning activities during self-study time. Learning activities will give learners the opportunity to practice and prepare for assessments.
Learners will have the opportunity to apply and test their new knowledge and skills through their employment and on-the-job training within their employer.
JOB ROLES/EMPLOYMENT OUTCOME
The Diploma of Engineering – Advanced Trade specifies the competencies required for employment as an Advanced Engineering Tradesperson – Level II in mechanical, electrical/ electronic or fabrication trade disciplines.
The job role involves application of advanced system level skills in the learner’s trade and may also include cross skills from other trades. Job roles may include the design, assembly, manufacture, installation, modification, testing, fault finding, commissioning, maintenance and service of mechanical, electrical or electronic systems including related equipment and machinery, fabrication of structures and assemblies requiring advanced manufacturing and assembly techniques, sheet metal work requiring advanced manufacturing and assembly techniques as well as use of relevant machinery, equipment and joining techniques. Machinery and equipment can include fluid power systems, stationary and mobile equipment, instruments, refrigeration, and the use of computer controlled machine tools.
Employment outcomes related to this qualification are found in a wide variety of manufacturing and engineering related sectors as well as Advanced Engineering Tradesperson – Level II related roles in other industries.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
Successful completion of the course will result in you being awarded the Qualification of Diploma of Engineering – Advanced Trade (MEM50119). Should the student successfully complete only one or more of the Units of Competency, but not the required 49 Units of Competency, the student will be issued with a Statement of Attainment at the time of completion or withdrawal.
For re- issuance of Certificates and Statements of Attainments the student will be charged $25 per document required. Payment for the re-issuance of such documents is required prior to the re-issuance occurring by the RTO.
