WHO CAN UNDERTAKE THE TRAINING?
For Domestic Students:
- Applicants must be 17 years and over at the time of course commencement
- Applicants must be able to provide their Year 12 certificate OR evidence that they have completed a Certificate IV or above level, otherwise they will be required to undertake an independent assessment test to ensure they can satisfactorily attain Level 3 in both reading and numeracy to apply for a VET Student Loan. To meet the academic requirements for the course, applicants are expected to have literacy and numeracy skills at Year 11 or Australian Core Skills Framework Level 3
- You must reside in Victoria to access Victorian Government Subsidised Fees and any incentive such as Job Trainer. Full fees apply to all non-Victorian residents.
RPL PROCESS
Our expert team will carefully assess your experience including past qualifications, relevant skills, and industry knowledge. Information about your knowledge and experience will be aligned to the relevant components of the qualification. You will receive recognition for the units or modules in which you have demonstrated either competency or similarity of learning outcomes, and you will only need to complete any remaining units to receive the qualification.
RPL COSTS
The cost for RPL in a VET course will vary depending on the number of units of competency you successfully gain recognition for, the fee structure of the course and any assessment or training required. You will be provided with an approximate cost for your unique situation when you apply.

CREDIT TRANSFER
Australian Institute Of Engineering as a Registered Training Organisation recognises the Australian Qualifications Framework qualifications and Statement of Attainments issued by any other Australian Registered Training Organisation.
Students are encouraged to submit any requests for credit from previous studies at the time of enrolment, to ensure they are not enrolling in units they may not need to undertake.
In order to apply for exemption/credit transfer from units completed at another training organisation, you will need to complete an Application for credit transfer Form available from AIE campus, or team, or a copy of the form can be obtained from AIE Website.
Your completed Application for credit transfer form together with attached documentary evidence (certified copy of Qualification/Statement of Attainment) to support your request for exemption/credit transfer should be submitted directly to AIE either in person or by email. Requests without documentary evidence will not be processed and will be returned to students. There are no fees attached to Credit Transfers.

For you to be eligible, you need to be:
- An Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), or a temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits

Undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy test and Pre Training Review (PTR) at Australian Institute of Engineering prior to your commencement of the course.
For International Students:
- Applicant must be 18 years of age or older
- An IELTS score of 5.5 or PTE Academic Score of 45.4 (or equivalent English Language Testing Score) is required for International students entering into this program*
- Applicants might be asked to take an AIE English Placement Test
- Students must successfully complete a LLN test to confirm the ability to effectively undertake the course
- This program has been designed to be delivered through classroom-based delivery and students must have the ability to attend the scheduled sessions as per the timetable and allocate some self-study time.
- Students will be required to have access to a computer (or laptop) with internet connection for self-study purposes.
*Note: Exception on English Requirement for international students
Applicant who is a citizen and holds a passport from UK, USA, Canada (excluding French province), NZ or Republic of Ireland, will not be required to present any English evidence as part of application with AIE.
WHAT CONTENT IS COVERED IN THE TRAINING?
Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (MEM30205) covers the skills and knowledge required to work as an Engineering Trades-person – Mechanical within metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries or other industries where Engineering Trades-person – Mechanical work.

WHAT IS THE COURSE DURATION?
This course has been designed to be delivered over 63 weeks with 51 weeks of scheduled classes and 12 weeks holidays.
Classes are held for 20 student contact hours per week which equates to 1020 student contact hours. This may be achieved with a schedule such as 3 days per week (2 days of 8 hours, and 1 day of 4 hours per week). While the timetable may vary it will always maintain 20 student contact hours per week.
Students will also be required to allocate some time each week to undertake some self-study (e.g. self-directed learning through activity books, case studies, and assignments). Students should be able to allocate approximately 4 hours per week outside of allocated class time. This equates to approximately 204 hours of self-study.

HOW IS THE COURSE TRAINED AND ASSESSED?
This program is to be delivered in a classroom-based environment with access to a fully equipped engineering workshop.
All theory and practical based delivery and assessment will occur within the designated classrooms and engineering workshop of the RTO through structured training sessions from a qualified Trainer / Assessor employed by the RTO. At these training sessions a qualified Trainer/ Assessor will provide the required skills and knowledge as per the unit content and will ensure the learning is imparted.
The course also involves students completing some reading and written work outside the scheduled classroom delivery time.
The assessment process will include the gathering of evidence to demonstrate the student’s competence. The assessments include theory and practical tasks and will be clearly documented in the assessment documents. Assessments will include tasks such as written questions, practical demonstrations, case studies and assignments.

JOB ROLES/EMPLOYMENT OUTCOME
The Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade specifies the competencies required for employment as an Engineering Tradesperson – Mechanical including the design, assembly, manufacture, installation, modification, testing, fault finding, commissioning, maintenance and service of all mechanical equipment, machinery, fluid power systems, stationary and mobile equipment, instruments, refrigeration, and the use of computer controlled machine tools.
Employment outcomes related to this qualification are found in a wide variety of manufacturing and engineering related sectors as well as Engineering Tradesperson – Mechanical roles in other industries.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
Successful completion of the course will result in you being awarded the Qualification of Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (MEM30205). Should the student successfully complete only one or more of the Units of Competency, but not the required 32 Units of Competency, the student will be issued with a Statement of Attainment at the time of completion or withdrawal.
For re- issuance of Certificates and Statements of Attainments the student will be charged $25 per document required. Payment for the re-issuance of such documents is required prior to the re-issuance occurring by the RTO.

Australian Institute of Engineering will not require an international student or intending overseas student undertaking a course that is more than 25 weeks, to pay more than 50% of the student’s total tuition fees for a course before the student has begun the course.
While Australian Institute of Engineering doesn’t require students to pay more than 50% up front, it can accept more than 50% of tuition fees before a course starts if the student, or the person responsible for paying the fees, chooses to pay more.
